Global Japanese chain Pepper Lunch coming to Orlando

The fast-growing franchise Pepper Lunch is coming to Central Florida.

The new restaurant rollout will be the second in the U.S. — following a cluster of openings in California, Nevada and Texas — for the chain founded in 1994 in Tokyo.

Pepper Lunch has 500 locations in 15 countries and features a unique concept: Customers use induction cookers and iron plates to cook their own food. Oviedo resident Colin Torrence spent about six months in Osaka, Japan and Pepper Lunch was his regular spot for dining, as it was close to his apartment.

"It's the first restaurant my brother took me to when I got there," he said. "I just remember it was steak and eggs with rice and awesome sauce. When they serve it, it's on a hot plate. The food is raw and it cooks on the plate. You flip it with your chopsticks. It's comfort food."
