Orlando bars get last laugh with this entertainment strategy

In an effort to attract more customers, Grape & the Grain wine bar on Virginia Drive in Orlando employed a new strategy on Jan. 25 that was so successful, it turned what's typically one of its slowest nights into one of its best that week.

The strategy? It collaborated with a small, local business called Comedy Dark to bring in entertainment. The comedy show sold out that night, filling the bar with patrons and giving them something to remember, said Grape & the Grain co-owner Alexie Fonseca.

"We killed it. Thursday is typically our second-slowest night of the week, but that week it was the second busiest, edging out Saturday night."

The house was packed on Jan. 25 at Grape & the Grain when Comedy Dark brought a show to the stage.

Grape & the Grain is located near a dozen other bars, so there’s competition. Given that there are 11,000 active beer, wine and liquor licenses in Central Florida, getting an edge can make the difference between surviving and thriving for any bar.
