Orlando's pride parade this year took security to the next level
Orlando’s biggest single-day event was even bigger this year, with 220,000 attendees, according to Come Out With Pride Executive Director Tatiana Quiroga.
The Come Out With Pride parade started at 4 p.m. on Oct. 21 and concluded at 6:30 p.m. — the longest run time ever. And for the first time, an outside event strategy firm was hired to bring a new level of security to Come Out With Pride, making it the safest ever.
While some other pride events in Florida were cancelled this year due to safety concerns, Quiroga and her team doubled down on their plans. “This has always been a volunteer effort, which blows my mind. The volunteers have pulled this off without outside help all these years. But it was time to think about the future of the event and bring in professionals to coordinate with our volunteers to ensure the smoothest running and safest event possible,” she said.
Orlando Business Journal spoke with Quiroga to get the details on the changes made this year.
