Church zoning moratorium dropped after Liberty Counsel push-back
A letter from Liberty Counsel may have influenced the Orange County Board of Commissioners' approach to a proposed moratorium on church-related permits in rural areas.
The moratorium, originally presented in Commissioner Kelly Simrad’s report dated Nov. 22, aimed to halt new applications for church developments in rural areas temporarily. This proposal was intended to give the county time to address zoning inconsistencies between churches on A2-zoned land and those in rural settlements.
In response to a request for comment from Orlando Business Journal, an Orange County public information officer referred to a recording of a Dec. 3 Board of County Commissioners’ meeting.
