Universal refines acreage in Epic Universe planned development

Universal’s plans for a major entertainment district anchored by Epic Universe have been refined, with parcels added and removed from land that's part of a county-sanctioned major economic development project (MEDP).

Documents filed May 29 with Orange County by Universal City Development Partners Ltd., a subsidiary of Universal Orlando Resort, show Universal effectively swapping out 78.2 acres for 61.94 acres. The acres added – for which Universal paid A-R HHC Orlando New Parcel Owner LLC $4 million in a transaction that closed May 15 – are near Orange County Convention Center along Destination Parkway. The land use changes were approved by the Orange County Development Review Committee on June 7.

These changes mean a total of 2,153 acres now fall within the Universal City Planned Development, the area affected by the MEDP since it was first approved in 2019. The planned development includes Shingle Creek Transit & Utility Community Development District.
