After-school tech cohort helps inspire future careers
It’s been a year since Frontline Outreach rolled out Frontline Innovation Studios, an after-school program that educates kids from Orlando's Greater Washington Shores area on technology, communications, coding, robotics, digital media, animation and health science.
Program Manager Gemima Canga described the cohort of 20 children who graduated on Dec. 21 with the kind of pride and affection that reveals how personalized the program is.
“As instructors, we do meet and we talk about the students and what they are getting out of the program individually. We're working on different skills as well as exposing them to various aspects of technology, but it’s not only that,” she said. “Take [Student Nathan Metre], for example. He’s a superstar in coding and robotics. But we also give him a lot of opportunities to present his work. If he finished this program without being comfortable communicating about what he knows, we have failed him.”
