Westgate Resorts founder David Siegel dies at 89

David Siegel, the founder and longtime leader of the Orlando region's largest privately held company, has died.

The executive board chairman and president of the billion-dollar timeshare company Westgate Resorts was 89. The company confirmed his death in an email sent to employees Saturday morning.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce that our founder, executive chairman and friend David Siegel passed away this morning at the age of 89," read the email. "David’s last months were spent surrounded by his loving wife Jacqueline, his children and his extended family and closest friends. Throughout his life, as well as in his last years, David’s passion for our company, our industry and the hospitality we create was always at the forefront of his mind."
