Legoland Florida shifts focus to hotels

Legoland Florida Resort, owned by U.K.-based Merlin Entertainments Group Ltd., has a broad strategy in play for its hotel and entertainment.

Merlin aims to transform its theme parks into destination resorts by adding more themed accommodations and attractions, while outsourcing entertainment to streamline operations, Julie Estrada, public relations director for Merlin Entertainments in North America, told Orlando Business Journal.

In addition, amid layoffs of 234 entertainment workers, a new partnership with a global provider is anticipated, alongside future Minecraft-themed projects with Microsoft.
