Businesses weigh impact of downtown Orlando curfew

Local businesses and the nightlife industry are grappling with the economic impact after Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer imposed a seven-day emergency curfew and alcohol restrictions in response to downtown violence on Halloween that left two dead and several injured.

Johnny David Mollings — better known as DJ Nasty, the Grammy Award-winning music producer and songwriter behind “All I Do Is Win” for DJ Khalid — was deejaying a Halloween event in downtown Orlando when he learned violence had broken out in the streets. “We didn't even have a clue what was going on outside at that point.” 

Soon a deluge of texts came flooding in from friends. A 17-year-old suspect had been taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and six counts of attempted first-degree murder. By morning, the news had spread nationwide.
