Could this Universal tech make you remember the theme park more fondly?

When Universal Destinations & Experiences builds the guest locator system it just filed a patent application for, the themed entertainment company will have eyes on guests in ways it hasn’t before.

Patrons will be captured on camera as they place orders at on-site restaurants, identified by one or more attributes. The system — powered by one or more processors and memory storing instructions executable by one or more processors — will be capable of tracking patrons as they move through the restaurant. A computer system also will be able to show employees where patrons have sat down after placing their orders so servers can bring their food directly to them.

The patent, dubbed “Systems and Methods for Locating a Guest in a Facility for Order Delivery,” appears to address a guest experience problem that’s common in quick-serve environments. Once built, the new system can eliminate the need for patrons to stay on alert until their order is ready. The system also can make work less frustrating for restaurant staff, as locating guests would be easier.
