2024 Economic Forecast: Orlando's tourism and tech industries to see growth as well as hurdles

Tourism and technology are the first- and second-largest industries in Central Florida.

The tourism industry is coming off a year where travelers chose international destinations over domestic trips. Still, theme parks have new additions planned for 2024 to help lure visitors back.

Meanwhile, the aerospace subset of tech may be the strongest of all, with unlimited growth in its future given that commercial spaceflight is revving up and terrestrial communications rely more on lower Earth orbit satellites.

As Space Florida’s new CEO Rob Long pointed out, the foundational infrastructure supporting local spaceports is nearing capacity. Roads, bridges, processing facilities and other systems are straining, he said.

In other words, the only hindrance to growth would be infrastructure, but if investment in this area stays as strong as it did in 2023, not even the sky is the limit. Here’s more 2024 insight from Central Florida experts in technology, aerospace, travel, tourism and hospitality sectors.
